Trends for 2012 include the following but not exclusively new developments or phenomenon, some of these have been around for a while whilst others are relatively new fields that have emerged and are predicted to take-off in the coming year. Take advantage of the Glossary to the right to find the definitions if you are new to BPM.
In no particular order:
- CEP (Complex Event Processing)
- Social BPM
- Mobile BPM
- Cloud BPM
- Case Management
- Adaptive Case Management
- Continuous BI
- Vendor Acquisitions and Mergers
- Data Scientist
- PMML adoption
- Process Mining
There seems to be consensus that ‘Big Data’ will be the corollary for major shifts as BPM becomes more mature. CeO’s are expected to increase as the data explosion continues to force organisations to be more dynamic and socially aware. Having the capability to keep abreast of the changes to the external environment is crucial in order to maximise the value propositions of organisations and respond in near real-time to trends that could affect the bottom line. As a result, CEP will be a major factor for trends in process mining, data scientists, continuous improvement will emerge as winners as more emphasis will be given to these roles and technologies.
Mobile, Social and Cloud BPM adoption will definitely be challenged as there is a correlation between all three of them and tied to reducing cost and improving ROI. Mobile BPM will prove to be the most challenging of the three due to security issues such as authentication and access which are internal IT issues. However, Social and Cloud BPM will largely depend on vendors being able to provide solutions that do more than just reduce IT costs which is a contentious area in its own rights. Other trends such as Facebook equivalent applications replacing messaging platforms can only further the goals of getting BPM Mobile adopted through social means on the Cloud.
Food for thought.
